Confused between the colleges?

Well, If you too are 18 and think that you wanna pave your own way, take your own decisions(in other words, decide your own fate rather than your parents choosing yours), I may be of some help here.

D.J. Sanghvi and Thadomal Shahani

First of all, NO college is BAD. If you had got IIT or NIT, you wouldn't have been reading my blog. Both the colleges, DJ and TSEC are more of the IIT's of mediocore students and trust me if you can get these colleges in the first go, you should not consider of taking a drop.

Back to the topic, DJ is located in Juhu while TSEC in Bandra, which means you'll have to empty your pockets a lot here compared to the others college.

1) Thadomal Shahani College Of Engineering

TSEC, Bandra was established in 1983 and has been growing in reputation since then. This college has a 50% reservation for the Sindhis. Academic wise , this is a drawback as the cut-offs are really low for them and even the minions of that community have fair chances of securing a seat here. But when you are from the GOPENH category (I assume you fairly know that), you are at GOD's MERCY and it's really tough to get TSEC as the number of seats are relatively less here and the cutoffs here are rocket high in the CAP rounds. So, if you get this college via the CAP rounds, you are really not any other student.

Campus

If you live in Mumbai and expect campuses of like 200 acres , go for Lovely Professional University. Well, actually there is no campus as such except from the main building you can see. However, TSEC students have access to RD National College's campus which is fairly decent size. FOOD in the canteen is edible but the fried rice, rolls you get near the main gate is really tasty and affordable(You'll have to compromise on the hygiene though).
Crowd here is the undoubtedly the best you can get in Mumbai. When I say best, girls too are included(Feeling like a boss, right?). The people here are decent, most of them are from rich families ,so don't be shocked if in case you see a guy smoking near the campus(I never mean that poors don't smoke).

Academics

Studies here are good, especially the IT dept. is famous in Mumbai. Teachers are always good in any of the college if you attend the lectures and don't text your friends in between. Going by the public opinion, if you wanna be a Chemical engineer and couldn't get UDCT , this should be your second preference  in Mumbai. Pretty decent labs. Attendance, no issues, just mange to keep it 60%.

(Placements at the bottom of the page!)

2) Dwarkadas J. Sanghvi College Of Engineering

Comparatively a new college, estb. in 1994 , one college that has grown leaps and bounds in the past few years. DJ is again a Gujrati Minority college having 50% reservation for the gujju's (CRUEL WORLD) but the good thing here is even for the gujju's the cut-offs are high and not a major difference b/w the General and Gujju merit numbers. This college conducts it's own admission procedure and is not included in the CAP process.

Campus

Well, again don't expect sprawling gardens and waterfalls in the campus. Except for the building there is nothing else here. But once you enter the building, DJSCOE will bowl you over. Best college building in Mumbai. Yes , no competition. The college is fully air-conditioned and of 5-star standards.
FOOD here too is good. the College canteen on the ground floor is really cheap and the food too is good. (One personal tip: Just try the vada pav stall near NMIMS campus, real delicacy.) The CROWD here too is pretty cool to hangout with as most of the gujjus prefer KJ Somaiya over DJ. The seniors here, I found them more cooperative.

Academics

Pretty good faculty and really up-to-date labs. The Comps. and EXTC dept. is nice here. But that doesn't mean other dept. ain't cool. Mechanical branch has just opened here so the cutoffs are analogously low. So, if you are adamant about Mechanical, try your luck here. Attendance is not a really a big issue, 70% is what you need to be safe.

PLACEMENTS

Getting into any of these two colleges will surely guarantee you a job but that doesn't mean you'll be placed in the big MNC's. Unless you study hard and have a respectable CGPA, you'll be places in TCS, Infosys or Wipro. But yes , even the college matters in your placement and DJ Sanghvi has a slighter edge compared to Thadomal and KJ Somaiya too.

Companies like Google, Microsoft , Intel and various others visit these colleges but Just 1 or 2 students get selected in these so you need to be the best in your branch.

Hope this helped!

Any queries, doubts, info. about the cut-offs, feel free to Comments.

Have a nice day!
